Although this group focuses mainly on NedCan as a romantic relationship, I'm aware that a big part of the fandom doesn't see them that way (for whatever reason) and I don't mind, really, each to their own. But can we at least accept that they would be close friends at the very least?
Netherlands-Canada relations go far beyond WWII and the annual Tulip Festival. They're both founding members of the NATO
, are important trading partners
to each other, have a Chamber of Commerce
, a youth exchange program
and there are over a million Canadians of Dutch descent
In other words, yes, they're pretty close, whether you choose to interpret their relationship as romantic or platonic. Which is why it baffles me whenever I see fanfictions or roleplays/ask blogs that describe their relationship as "they barely know each other"/"they rarely talk"/ect. You don't work that closely with someone for almost 70 years without getting to know them
. (Also, why would you make a roleplay/ask account for a Hetalia character and NOT research their foreign relations?) The World War isn't the only thing that binds them and the Tulip Festival isn't the only time of the year when they interact.
Just so we're clear: this is not me complaining about people not shipping NedCan; this is me complaining about people not doing proper research.
